Terre
Haute's only remaining air show is officially canceled for this year.
Victory Days won't return to Hulman International Airport after all.
The World War II era event was moved here last year after flooding in
Columbus, Indiana.
During Wednesday night's meeting, the Terre Haute Airport Board told us
Victory Days is canceled. A September weekend had been scheduled a few
months ago, but the show became doubtful recently because of a lack of
sponsors.
The Airport Board says there will be no Terre Haute Air Fair again this
year either.
"Victory Days has advised us that they're not having an event this
year," says Airport Board President Darryl Huyett, who also said this
about the Air Fair "It's kind of late to start at this point. We have
to start the December before to start booking the acts and getting
going. While we'd love to have something in 2009, I just don't think
that's possible."
The Airport is also receiving $2.7 million stimulus dollars to complete
its runway project. The Board has also narrowed its Airport Director
search to four finalists and will start face to face interviews next
week.
